Scripture: Matthew 6:14-15 (ESV)
“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
Reflection:
Forgiveness is at the heart of the Christian faith. Jesus’ words in Matthew challenge us to release those who have wronged us, just as God has forgiven us through Christ. Holding onto bitterness can weigh down our hearts, but forgiveness frees us to experience God’s grace and peace. Think of the parable of the unforgiving servant (Matthew 18:21-35), who was forgiven a massive debt but refused to show mercy to another. This story reminds us that God’s forgiveness toward us should inspire us to extend the same grace to others, even when it’s difficult.
Application:
Forgiveness is not for “them”. It is for YOU. Frogiveness allow you to move on without the burden of what needed forgiveness, knowing that judgement will be done in the case of the other.
Is there someone you need to forgive? Take a moment to pray for them, asking God to soften your heart and help you release any resentment or burden. If reconciliation is an option consider reaching out with a kind word or gesture as a step toward reconciliation, trusting God to heal the wounds. If it is not an option, give your resentment and negative feelings to Christ to unburden your heart. Cleanse your spirit to let the Holy Spirit flow through you for the Glory of God.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for forgiving my sins. Help me to forgive those who have hurt me, even when it’s hard. Fill me with Your love and grace, so I can reflect Your heart to others. Amen.
