Scripture: Philippians 2:3-8 (NIV)
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!”
Reflection:
Humility is often misunderstood in our world as weakness or self-deprecation, but in the Christian life, it’s a profound strength modeled by Jesus Himself. Paul urges the Philippians to adopt Christ’s mindset, where true humility means putting others first without seeking personal gain. Jesus, though divine, chose to serve humanity, culminating in His sacrificial death. This isn’t about diminishing our worth but recognizing that our value comes from God, freeing us to lift others up. In daily life, humility transforms conflicts into opportunities for grace, turning prideful hearts toward unity.
Application:
Think about a recent interaction where pride got in the way. How might approaching it with humility change the outcome? Today, intentionally perform an act of service for someone without expecting recognition.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, teach me the humility of Your Son, Jesus. Help me to value others above myself and to serve with a willing heart. Strip away my pride and fill me with Your grace. Amen.
